The Backyard Journey

Environmental Interpretation as Artistic Methodology, From Childhood Play to Digital Creation

This paper explores how childhood creative play, spatial memory, environmental interpretation, and personal visual experience can develop into professional digital artistry. It positions early imaginative environments not as nostalgic background, but as formative systems of perception, composition, storytelling, and artistic methodology.

Within my broader practice, this work became the conceptual foundation for later research on visual education, procedural play, and child-centered creative learning systems.

Rethinking Art Education in the Age of Digital Aesthetics

This article examines the transformation of art education in response to digital technologies, immersive tools, artificial intelligence, and contemporary visual culture. It proposes a hybrid workshop model that connects traditional material practice with digital translation, augmented reality, virtual environments, real-time rendering, and AI-assisted creative workflows.

The paper contributes to the discussion around future-ready art education by framing digital aesthetics not as a replacement for traditional art learning, but as an expanded environment where material practice, embodied learning, and technological literacy can work together.

Sandbox Thinking

Designing Childhood-Centered Visual Education Through Spatial Memory & Procedural Play

This article develops Sandbox Thinking as a pedagogical framework for visual education. It repositions childhood play, spatial memory, procedural exploration, and symbolic construction as foundations for visual literacy, compositional awareness, and creative learning.

The framework proposes a child-centered model that prioritizes process over product, using embodied learning, iterative design, symbolic play, and narrative construction as methods for developing visual thinking. It extends the questions raised in The Backyard Journey into a more structured educational model.

Why This Research Matters to My Visual Practice

My research is not separate from my production work. It informs how I think about visual systems, memory, storytelling, interpretation, and the relationship between technology and human perception.

In commercial CGI and visual direction, the challenge is often similar: transforming abstract ideas into structured visual experiences. In education, that transformation happens through learning systems; in production, it happens through cinematic language, look development, rhythm, and final execution.

This connection between research and production strengthens my role as an interdisciplinary visual lead — someone who works not only with images, but with the systems of meaning behind them.
